Our
Story
Through the efforts of parents and volunteers who recognized that individuals with developmental disabilities finishing their high school careers needed to engage in productive activities, what was originally known as Pleasantview Achievement Center was established in 1969. Seeking to create opportunities for training, education and support services, the grassroots efforts began to take shape in a small bungalow in rural Saugus where Central Park now sits.
Grassroots beginings
Over time, the program grew and developed, becoming one of the oldest non profits and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley. Identifying opportunities for vocational skill development and a desire to support the growing business community, the agency's name was later changed to Pleasantview Industries, Inc.
In 1974, Pleasantview hired it's first employee, Executive Director Gerry Howard. Through the years, Gerry expertly guided the agency through much growth and development. Becoming a Community Resource Provider for the Department of Rehabilitation and a vendor for the newly established Regional Center system local office, North Los Angeles County Regional Center, aproviding Pleasantview a steady stream referrals and revenues.
By focusing on serving on providing services in the Santa Clarita Valley, the agency has become uniquely skilled at understanding the needs of the individuals who reside in Santa Clarita, who work in Santa Clarita and who own businesses in Santa Clarita.
Board of Directors
Pleasantview is governed by a Board of Directors which provides oversight of the mission, programs, policies and procedures that guides our work. Theirs is a job with goes largely unnoticed and acknowledged yet they are dedicated and committed to ensure that Pleasantview provides quality services for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Santa Clarita Valley. In an effort to honor the work they do on behalf of the clients we serve, we want to introduce you to each of our Board members.
